Vestibular issues refer to problems affecting the vestibular system, which is responsible for maintaining balance, spatial orientation, and coordination of movement. This system processes sensory information from all parts of your body and surrounding environment. Vestibular therapy, also known as Vestibular rehabilitation physiotherapy, uses exercises that help to manage dizziness and balance issues.

At Neurological Physiotherapy we provide a vestibular service to diagnose and treat vestibular symptoms in a specially adapted clinic room.
We will start by taking a full clinical history and detailed review of your symptoms prior to completing a physical examination. The assessment will include specific vestibular tests depending on your individual symptom pattern. Some of these tests may increase some of your symptoms. Your physiotherapists will discuss the relevant tests with you and the expected outcome before completing the assessment.
We may recommend arranging a hearing test or a referral to a neurologist for an MRI or CT scan to identify any structural issues.
Following your assessment your physiotherapist will discuss the outcome and clinically appropriate treatment options for your presentation. This may include specific vestibular exercises, treatment of your neck and jaw, postural alignment and/or canalith repositioning manoeuvres.
We may additionally recommend making lifestyle changes, speaking to your GP about prescribed medication or a neurologist about surgery options if this is clinically indicated.
