Physical exercises are conducted within a specially designed, heated, hydrotherapy pool in Stockport to target and treat a wide variety of presentations. Hydrotherapy is significantly different from conventional swimming and aqua aerobics. The pool is heated up to 31-35 degrees and the exercises and movements are developed for your individual presentation to address treatment goals. Hydrotherapy is often less strenuous than land-based exercises, focusing on guided, controlled, pain–free movements, with the ultimate goal of providing pain relief and greater freedom of movement.
An initial land based assessment will be completed to ascertain that hydrotherapy will be appropriate for your presentation. We currently provide outpatient hydrotherapy sessions at Seashell Trust, Stockport, Cheshire and St Cyril’s Rehabilitation Unit, Chester, Cheshire.
Hydrotherapy is a specialised form of therapeutic exercise and rehabilitation performed in warm water. For individuals recovering from neurological conditions — including stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and other movement disorders — hydrotherapy offers unique advantages. The warmth and buoyancy of the water reduce weight-bearing strain, improve muscle relaxation, and support safe, functional movement patterns. This creates an ideal environment for rebuilding strength, balance, gait control and confidence for daily activities.
Our team uses evidence-based hydrotherapy techniques to support functional goals — whether you are relearning to walk, strengthening weakened muscles, or managing long-term neurological symptoms.
From your first assessment to goal-setting and regular sessions, we support you every step of the way. Sessions include:
