At Neurological Physiotherapy we offer a variety of services to provide person centred treatment for Musculoskeletal presentations.
Active Release Techniques (ART)
ART involves the manual relieving of tension in the soft tissues to improve range of motion and muscle pain through a combination of pressure and individual movement. ART can be utilised for upper extremity, spinal and lower extremity musculoskeletal conditions.
Acupuncture
This is used as an integrated approach to support the management of pain and inflammation. Imbalances and trigger points within the body are identified and with the use of needles, relax specific muscles and stimulate the body to repair, promoting recovery and enhancing rehabilitation. Acupuncture is painless and for many people aids relaxation.
Bespoke exercise and stretching programmes
Dynamic Medicine Ball and Swiss Ball Training
A versatile fitness tool that can be used for building core strength and stability, through the introduction of exercises using a medicine ball. This type of training is incorporated into the rehabilitation of low back pain, sciatica, herniated disc, facet syndrome, postural problem, posture-related back ache and sacroiliac joint dysfunction.
Ergonomic set up
Guidance on optimising workplace or home setups to reduce strain on your spine and other joints to reduce the risk of further injury.
Advise can be provided on adjustments to seating, posture, and movement patterns to minimise stress on the body and avoid repetitive strain injuries.
Gait training
Therapeutic intervention and exercises are provided to improve walking pattern, standing posture, muscle strength, and muscle memory. They may be used in conjunction with walking aids if required.
Hydrotherapy
Manual therapy
It involves the application of pressure over a stiff or painful joint to improve range of motion and function while reducing pain. The technique is performed by stabilising one segment of a joint and applying manual pressure or traction to the nearby section to restore their natural movement.
Physiotherapy Independent Prescribing (HCPC)
Prescriptions can be issued following an assessment session, specifically in relation to the treatment and management of musculoskeletal conditions.
Pilates and Yoga
Postural training
Intervention to optimise the alignment of your body to reduce the strain on your joints and muscles to prevent repetitive movement patterns and help reduce pain. Core and postural muscle strengthening exercises will be used to maintain and enable further progress.
Soft tissue mobilisation including myofascial release
Mobilising the muscles and other soft tissues helps release tension leading to better range of movement and flexibility. The healing process is sped up through the removal of waste products and mobilisation will also break up scar tissue.
SOMM Injection Therapy: Steroid and Ostenil
We provide assessment for suitability for Therapeutic Injection Therapy, which can be used to treat:
- Inflammatory pain from a range of orthopaedic and rheumatological conditions
- Chronic headache of musculoskeletal origin.
We will not offer Therapeutic Injection Therapy for:
- Cosmetic purposes
- Regional and general anaesthesia including peripheral nerve blocks
More information about these treatments can be found at: www.movinginstinct.co.uk
Sports and Swedish Massage
During a sports massage the session is customised to target areas of the body likely to sustain injury or pain following work or sport related activity. This type of massage will also help reduce muscle strain and promote healing.
Alternatively in a Swedish massage the body is treated holistically with an emphasis on enhancing circulation and reducing muscle tension. It can help promote relaxation and reduce stress.
Taping
We can incorporate taping into treatment when clinically indicated to reduce swelling through soft tissue compression, support anatomical structures, restrict the movement of injured joints, and prevent re-injury.
Trigger point therapy
Application of direct pressure to a trigger point or ‘knot’ helps to reduce muscle tension and promote healing.
Use of splints, braces, and orthoses
These devices are designed to maintain a body part in a certain position which can prevent, or correct deformities caused by a condition and help facilitate activities that would otherwise be limited, such as picking up objects or walking. We can facilitate referrals to NHS services or identify recommended suppliers.
