Why choose Neurological Physiotherapy for your physiotherapy treatment?
Often pain and unresolving injuries are due to altered movement patterns within your body that are putting unnecessary stress and load on other areas. Your body can adapt to any dysfunctional movement for short periods of time but beyond this you will start to develop re-occurring injuries and pain.
These symptoms require a holistic assessment to observe the way your whole body moves, rather than just the area in which you are experiencing your symptoms.
Where previous treatment has been unsuccessful Neurological Physiotherapy have proven success with treating symptoms that have been unresponsive to treatment in the past.
Our specialist physiotherapists have a wealth of skill and experience in assessing people with long standing problems and treating your problems effectively.
The combined Neurological and Musculoskeletal Orthopaedic approach utilised by our skilled team of therapists encompasses your whole body; muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and nerves, to treat you rather than a single area.
We don’t just treat the symptom; we look for the cause.
Do you have any of these symptoms? Book an appointment today.
- Re-occurring neck and back pain/injuries (including disc pathologies)
- Neck and back pain that has not previously responded successfully with physiotherapy
- Jaw pain
- Headaches
- Migraine
- Sciatica
- Persistent nerve pain in the arm or leg
- Constant pain/tension around your shoulders
- Re-occurring hip, shoulder and elbow pain
- Re-occurring Tennis elbow, Achilles tendonitis and plantar fasciitis
- Poly Trauma, where multiple injuries have occurred following catastrophic events. Including fractures, soft tissue restrictions and injury, surgical complications, weakness and sensory loss
We recognise the complexity of the issues that you may be experiencing and understand that there may be a need for multi-disciplinary and medical team involvement in some symptom management.
We have well established links with other health professionals and can refer you into other services, both statutory or privately, where necessary, e.g. Orthotics and splinting, Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) for foot drop and upper limb weakness, local gym schemes, condition specific exercise classes, scans and further investigations.
At Neurological Physiotherapy we offer a variety of services to provide person centred treatment for your condition.
Active Release Techniques (ART)
ART involves the manual relieving of tension in the soft tissues to improve range of motion and muscle pain through a combination of pressure and individual movement. ART can be utilised for upper extremity, spinal and lower extremity musculoskeletal conditions.
Acupuncture
This is used as an integrated approach to support the management of pain and inflammation. Imbalances and trigger points within the body are identified and with the use of needles, relax specific muscles and stimulate the body to repair, promoting recovery and enhancing rehabilitation. Acupuncture is painless and for many people aids relaxation.
Bespoke Exercise and Stretching Programmes
We create bespoke (customised) exercise and stretching programmes tailoring the routine to your individual condition, symptoms, goals, and physical capabilities. You will be guided on the frequency to complete the programme, how to progress exercises and educated about the pain scale rule.
Dynamic Medicine Ball and Swiss Ball Training
A versatile fitness tool that can be used for building core strength and stability, through the introduction of exercises using a medicine ball. This type of training is incorporated into the rehabilitation of low back pain, sciatica, herniated disc, facet syndrome, postural problem, posture-related back ache and sacroiliac joint dysfunction.
Ergonomic Set Up
Guidance on optimising workplace or home setups to reduce strain on your spine and other joints to reduce the risk of further injury. Advice can be provided on adjustments to seating, posture, and movement patterns to minimise stress on the body and avoid repetitive strain injuries.
Gait Training
Therapeutic intervention and exercises are provided to improve walking pattern, standing posture, muscle strength, and muscle memory. They may be used in conjunction with walking aids if required.
Hydrotherapy
Kinesiology Taping
We can incorporate kinesiology taping into treatment when clinically indicated to reduce swelling through soft tissue compression, support anatomical structures, restrict the movement of injured joints, and prevent re-injury.
Manual Therapy
It involves the application of pressure over a stiff or painful joint to improve range of motion and function while reducing pain. The technique is performed by stabilising one segment of a joint and applying manual pressure or traction to the nearby section to restore their natural movement.
Pilates and Yoga
Postural Training
Intervention to optimise the alignment of your body to reduce the strain on your joints and muscles to prevent repetitive movement patterns and help reduce pain. Core and postural muscle strengthening exercises will be used to maintain and enable further progress.
Soft Tissue Mobilisation including Myofascial Release
Mobilising the muscles and other soft tissues helps release tension leading to better range of movement and flexibility. The healing process is sped up through the removal of waste products and mobilisation will also break up scar tissue.
SOMM Injection Therapy: Steroid and Ostenil
We provide assessment for suitability for Therapeutic Injection Therapy, which can be used to treat:
- Inflammatory pain from a range of orthopaedic and rheumatological conditions
- Chronic headache of musculoskeletal origin.
We will not offer Therapeutic Injection Therapy for:
- Cosmetic purposes
- Regional and general anaesthesia including peripheral nerve blocks
More information about these treatments can be found at: www.movinginstinct.co.uk
Sports and Swedish Massage
During a sports massage the session is customised to target areas of the body likely to sustain injury or pain following work or sport related activity. This type of massage will also help reduce muscle strain and promote healing.
Alternatively in a Swedish massage the body is treated holistically with an emphasis on enhancing circulation and reducing muscle tension. It can help promote relaxation and reduce stress.
Trigger Point Therapy
Application of direct pressure to a trigger point or ‘knot’ helps to reduce muscle tension and promote healing.
Use of Splints, Braces, and Orthoses
These devices are designed to maintain a body part in a certain position which can prevent, or correct deformities caused by a condition and help facilitate activities that would otherwise be limited, such as picking up objects or walking. We can facilitate referrals to NHS services or identify recommended suppliers.
