This year Neurological Physiotherapy marked the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy’s “Older People’s day” by raising awareness for their new defibrillator. In May Megan  (a Physiotherapist at Neurological Physiotherapy)  ran the Edinburgh marathon to raise money to buy their  practice a defibrillator. Megan first had the idea for this fundraising after hearing the statistics for survival of a cardiac arrest with the use of a defib. Thanks to the very kind donations of colleagues, patients,  friends and family they were able to purchase an external storage box too so that the whole of Cheadle community can access it. The defibrillator is held in its box outside the front door of Oak House.   On Thursday 5th October Neurological Physiotherapy invited local businesses, the local community and their patients to come and receive some training on basic CPR and the use of a defibrillator. The training was carried out by Madeleine Watts who is the Parish Nurse/first aid trainer at St Saviour’s church in Great Moor and a friend to Neurological Physiotherapy.

“At present there is no legal requirement for public places or building to have a defibrillator but  we are a busy clinic in the heart of Cheadle village, who have lots of people attending appointments on a day to day basis.  We hope that having a defib at Neurological Physiotherapy can save lives, if it is ever needed to be used and can give the local community  some reassurance. All the long hours of training, the blisters and pain after the marathon were worth it for this outcome, however, I won’t be rushing to put on my running shoes again any time soon!”
